School Age Care

This curriculum prepares individuals to work with school-age children

in diverse learning environments. The curriculum is specifically designed for students planning to work in public or private school-age care environments.

Course work includes child growth/development; physical/nutritional needs of school-age children; care and guidance of school-age children; and communication skills with parents and children. Students will foster the cognitive/language, physical/motor, social/emotional, and creative development of school-age populations.

Graduates are prepared to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities in school-age environments. Employment opportunities include school-age teaching or school-age administration positions in child care/development programs, group leaders, before and after school programs, recreational centers and other programs that work with school-age populations.

Extracurricular Activities

The Alpha Beta Chi (ABC) Club is a voluntary campus organization comprised of students, faculty and staff at MCC and anyone who is interested in being an advocate for children. The club works to provide students with opportunities to promote their profession in the community, to participate in fundraisers and outreach activities, and to learn about people and agencies that play a vital role in the early childhood field.
