Institutional Effectiveness Plan: Human Services Technology

2009-2010 Assessment Outcomes & Use of Results

College Goal:
  1. Develop and implement instructional programs and services, both traditional and distance learning offerings, consistent with the assessed needs of the constituent groups in the College's service area and with state and national standards, including training and retraining of the workforce.
  2. Provide an environment that supports employing and retaining a quality faculty and staff and promotes enhanced student learning, achievement, and development in a global society.
Division Goal: Provide facilities, staffing, and services that support educational program delivery.
Department Goal: Meet the increasing cultural diversity demands of the local workforce demographics
Objectives: Diversify the Human Services Program in enrollment and service delivery
Action Plan:
  1. Foster relationships with ESL staff at EMHS and WMHS
  2. Offer HSE introductory courses to Huskins students in Fall
  3. Establish community partnerships with diverse populations
  4. Promote diversity through the Human Services Advisory Board
  5. Encourage and promote the Human Service Club through activities and service projects
  6. Human Service students will participate in Red Ribbon Week in the high schools
Assessment Strategy: Enrollment numbers
Assessment Outcomes:
  1. A clinical student has been placed at EMHS to work closely with Mrs. Rochelle Bostic
  2. Three Huskins students were enrolled in HSE 110, but did not complete the course.
  3. Diverse partnerships are established to involve adolescents, seniors, and Hispanic population
  4. Diversity is present amongst the Advisory Board
  5. The Human Service club participated in service to senior citizens of Montgomery County, as well as the Angel Tree ministry.
  6. Due to schedule conflicts, students were unable to participate in Red Ribbon Week
Use of Results: Overall, the goals have been met. The results will be used in order to market and serve the program in the community.

Objectives: Human Services Technology program will add courses that are directly related to the current workforce demands
Action Plan:
  1. Offer HSE 110, and SAB 110 introductory courses to high school Huskins students
  2. Add ACA 111 to the 2009 curriculum
  3. Add Spanish in the Workplace to the 2009 curriculum
  4. Offer the Substance Abuse Certificate to be completed in two semesters
  5. Offer the Substance Abuse Certificate to be completed online
  6. Hire an adjunct instructor to teach Substance Abuse courses in two semesters
Assessment Strategy: Substance Abuse Certificate graduates
Assessment Outcomes:
  1. HSE 110 and SAB 110 courses are offered to Huskins students
  2. ACA 11 has been added to the 2009 curriculum
  3. SPA 120 has been added to the 2009 curriculum
  4. The Substance Abuse Certificate can be completed within two semesters
  5. The Substance Abuse Certificate can be completed online
  6. Due to budget constraints, and adjunct instructor was not hired
Use of Results: The Human Services students will meet the current workforce demands and trends. The curriculum is designed to meet the seated and online students’ needs.

  3. Maintain an on-going program that insures continual improvement and a high standard of institutional effectiveness, consistent with the expectations of governing and accrediting agencies.
Division Goal: Provide access to and guidance in professional development opportunities to strengthen instructional delivery and to prepare for accreditation initiatives.
Department Goal: Enhance instructional faculty performance through appropriate professional development and continuing educational opportunities
Objectives:
  1. Enhance the department’s performance through appropriate professional development opportunities
  2. Enhance the department’s use of online course work
Action Plan:
  1. Program Head to attend NCCCS conference in Fall 2009
  2. Program Head to apply for a grant to attend the NC Great Teachers Retreat for Spring 2010
  3. Program Head will sit for the Human Services Board Certified Practitioner (HS-BCP) Exam Fall 2009
  4. Program Head will complete ongoing training for online/hybrid courses
  5. Program Head will begin coursework in a post-Master’s certificate in College Teaching
Assessment Strategy: Grant acceptance, Completed certifications, Professional Development log
Assessment Outcomes:
  1. Due to budget constraints, the Program Head did not attend the NCCCS Fall conference
  2. Program Head did not receive the NCCCS Great Teacher’s retreat
  3. Program Head is scheduled to sit for the HS-BCP exam May-July 2010
  4. Continued education and professional development is ongoing
  5. Coursework to being post-Master’s will begin Summer 2010

  2. Provide an environment that supports employing and retaining a quality faculty and staff and promotes enhanced student learning, achievement, and development in a global society.
Division Goal: Provide facilities, staffing, and services that support educational program delivery.
Department Goal: Promote the Human Services Technology program through community involvement and initiatives
Objectives: Remain actively involved in Montgomery County through service and partnerships
Action Plan:
  1. Keep the Human Services Advisory Board actively involved
  2. The HS Advisory Board and Club will host the Martin Luther King Day Challenge to include partnerships with high school service organizations
  3. Enhance the HSE 225 Crisis Intervention class by partnering with the local American Red Cross
  4. Collaborate with local Human Services agencies for class presentations
  5. Human Services students to speak for Red Ribbon Week at local high schools

Assessment Outcomes:
  1. The Human Services Advisory board is actively involved

  3. The American Red Cross provided training to students
  4. Alcohol and Drug Services, Communities In Schools, ARC, and Emergency Management made presentations to the students
  5. Due to schedule conflicts, students were unable to participate in Red Ribbon Week
Use of Results: Students will become aware of the diverse areas of Human Services for future employment and field of study. The HS department will establish community partnerships, as well as, marketing opportunities.

Division Goal: Provide credit and non-credit programming to enhance economic development of the service area.
Department Goal: Meet the increasing demands of the local workforce demographics
Objectives: Diversify the Human Services Program in enrollment and service delivery by beginning the Human Services Accreditation process.
Action Plan:
  1. Register and submit necessary paperwork to begin accreditation process
  2. Add HSE 220 Case Management to the curriculum
  3. Delete HSE 260 Clinical Experience
  4. HS students will be prepared to take the HS-BCP exam upon graduation
  5. Establish a Human Services club Alumni Association to assist with accreditation, advisory board, and community needs.

Action Plan:
  1. Hire an adjunct instructor to teach online Substance Abuse courses and certificate in two semesters
  2. Enhance online classes with media, visual, and interactive resources
  3. Receive training on media alternatives (webcam, video)
