Networking Technology

Choose a diploma or certificate in Networking Technology in an evening program.

Course work includes design, installation, configuration and management of network infrastructure and operating systems. Emphasis is on implementing and managing network software and hardware such as switches and routers.

Successful graduates qualify for entry level jobs as local area network technicians in a wide variety of venues including business, healthcare, educational, financial or government settings.

Graduates may qualify to take certification exams for various network industry certifications.

The Profession

For over two decades, computer information technology has had tremendous growth as a profession. The potential for advancement is unlimited for an individual who thrives on change. As the profession becomes more specialized, individuals can continue to increase their marketability through continuing education, obtaining specialized certifications.

According to the North Carolina Employment Security Commission Occupational Projections through 2016 for individuals with an Associate Degree, Computer Support Specialists are second only to Registered Nurses in highest number of annual job openings and highest average salaries in the State.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows a 14% increase in these jobs nationally through 2018.

Co-curricular Activities

The Business Technologies Club and the Network Security Club are voluntary campus organizations that provide students with leadership opportunities to gain valuable experience for the job market. Students participate in activities such as promoting their profession in the community; fundraising and outreach projects; and networking with people, agencies and organizations that play a vital role in their profession.
